Belgium & Holland 23 to 27 April 2012

The four galleries cover all kinds of transport from the UK to Belgium and Holland with Gallery 45 concentrating on railways in Brugge, Belgium and Amsterdam, Holland.
The cities of Brugge, and Amsterdam, are also covered.
A special visit was made to the famous Keukenhof Gardens in Holland that produced a riot of colour.
Brooklands Museum Revisited
Another in depth look at Mercedes Benz World and the Brooklands Museum.
Despite having visited only a few weeks ago there was still a great deal more to see at both venues.
Iceland and the Northern Isles
Our journey starts in Poole, Dorset and takes us via Dorchester (very good
chocolate shop here) and onto Somerset for Lytes Cary manor (NT) then moving onto Wells.
An overnight stay at a hotel near the port so as to be ready for an early start to Avonmouth docks where the car is parked.
We travel to Plymouth by coach and board our faithful ship MV Discovery for our
The cruise takes us North to Liverpool to pick up more passengers.
We have a short break here to explore the wonderful new docks area.
Back on Discovery we sail to Harris and Lewis and tender in at Stornoway for a
coach outing of Lewis.
This visit brought back memories of our last time here was back in
1968 (46 years ago!)
We now sail to the Faroe Islands with a tour of the main island from
From here we travel to our main destination of Iceland with our first port of call at
Eskifjordur. We have a very interesting tour of the local area.
Our next port is Akureyri for more sightseeing.
We now move onto Isafjordur, a lovely small town and port.
Our last port of call is the capital, Reykjavik, for more touring.
During our visit to Iceland we see many thermal areas with hot springs and
geysirs there are also two splendid waterfalls. The first is The Waterfall of the
Gods and the second is the Gullfoss Waterfall.
The falls are not large but both are spectacular in there own way.
Iceland and the Northern Isles have much to offer as regards
mountain scenery and Fjords all with breath taking cliffs and inlets.
We now journey back to Liverpool and are coached back to Avonmouth to collect
our car for our return journey to Poole, Dorset.
Brooklands Museum 1940s Relived Day
See this wonderful museum in all its glory with Aircraft, Cars, Tractors, Military Vehicles, Lorries and People in period costume.
See people dancing to 1940s music and a 1940s fashion show.
This museum site also houses the London Bus Museum.
What a great place to spend a day.

The Thames Cable Car and Greenwich
The cable car is a great ride that takes you high above the O2 Arena.
Greenwich has much to offer in attractions such as the Cutty Sark, The Observatory and much, much more.
Beaulieu, Southampton and the New Forrest
See the National Motor Museum, Shipping at Southampton and the famous Hythe pier railway.
Fred was my hero and dabbled in everything old especially steam.

A remarkable journey round my home island with many interesting ports of call.
The high point being the Queen's Diamond Jubilee parade on the River Thames.
Despite bad weather in the form of rain, something to remember for the rest of my life.
